The 370z is a car we’ve kind of shied away from. It’s heavy, expensive, slow, and not very nimble really. I know that sounds odd because Z cars are usually pretty good and it’s not an awful looking car. The problem is it fails to capture the essence of driving and instead tries to be something it’s not. The potential is there and as we told you last week it seems the new Z will be lighter, smaller, and much improved. We welcome that with open arms.
However we still have a few years for the new Z so we need to look and see what we get for 2013. What you’ll get is a redesigned fascia, that’s not totally new but sort of refined, Audi style LEDs for day time running lights, and some new rims. For all this the base price now goes up to $33,120. That’s not awful by itself but that’s before you add options and then the Z gets expensive fast. In fact you can turn the 370Z into a $40,000 car very quickly and what you have to ask yourself is that at 40k is the 370z very good? The answer is no. For the price of a Z you’ll be in the league of all the new muscle cars, the Hyundai Genesis, BMWs 1 series, Mercedes, C class, and the Audi TT. Among others. Not to mention the cheaper better driving alternatives in the Miata and BRZ/FRS.
So why get a 370Z? I don’t know, but if you want one you can get a 2013 Z pretty shortly at your local Nissan dealer.
